Advertiser, Lafayette, Sunday, Feb. 18, 1973 27 III A P) Toussaint, Suzanne XV Reign At Pageant Fantasy Of Flowers' 1 Buglers heralded the arrival of King Toussaint L'Overture XV, Joseph Curtis Mouton and Queen Suzanne Simonne' XV, Miss Betty Jane Chaisson, last night at the Municipal Auditorium. The monarchs ruled over the 15th annual Mardi Gras Carnival naaiit of the Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival, Inc. Reigning over a "Fantasy Of Flowers'' the pair received eight maids, escorted by dukes and reviewed the queens who are to appear again on the floats sponsored by the festival association in the main parade on Mardi Gras Day, March 6. Children presented in the pageant, miniatures of the royalty, were costumed in keeping with the pageant theme.

Narrator for the event was Edward J. Ray, principal of Sunset Elementary School. President of the association is Doremus Dorsey. Miss Genevieve Vann, general ehairman of the pageant, welcomed past royalty and presented a plaque with honorary membership to immediate' past King Toussaint Xrv, Clifton Joseph Bourges and Queen Suzanne Simonne XIV, Miss Thelma Louise Fleming. Contrasting the white and gold splendor of the robes of their rulers the eight maids presented at court were attired in the colors of garden flowers.

The headdress of each was composed of flowers to accent her costume. Dukes were attired in costumes of complementing colors. Presented at court were Miss Priscilla Griffin escorted by Michael Jones; Miss Sonja Mouton, escorted by Keith Lastrapes; Miss Barbara Garrick escorted by Wille Chaisson; Miss Gwendolyn Jones escorted by Harold Fils; Miss Margaret Scranton, escorted by Amos Williams; Miss Ramona Sonnier escorted by Randy Felix; Miss Kimberly Lastrapes escorted by Mario Lastrapes; and Miss Polly Ann Bonnet, escorted by Emery Batiste. Queens Float queens included Miss Sandra Ann Breaux of Breaux Bridge, representing the paseant theme Fantasy of Flowers; Miss Barbara Jackson, sunflowers; Miss Deborah Marie Lastrapes, roses; Miss Jacqueline Anderson of Scott, azaleas; Miss Deborah Decuir. variety of Powers; and Miss Roxanne Mavie Augustine, a lily pond.

The senior prince was Gregory Chenier of Opclousas and the senior princess was Miss Jezel Hebert, both in gold and white costume. Junior prince was Michael Veazie and junior princess was Bernadette Garrick in similar attire. Other children appearing in the pageant included Etta Mouton, Jude Lastrapes, Ada Perkins, Roy Allen Broussard, Gaymell Hayes, Arthur Hayes Katie Babineaux, Curt Mounton Penny Me-lancon, Timmy Andprson. Joyce Broussard, Carl LeBlanc, Karen Doucet. Terry James Bonnet, Carmelita Fontenette, Andrew Roy Martin Castelee John Broussard.

John Espree, Wilson Joseph Goody, Anthony David Mathews, Gregory Young, Wesley J. Martin III, Leonard Goody, Roxanne An-drus, Arnettc Morrison, Amy Jewel Saul, Yolande Michelie Canonge, Kathleen Marie Mathews, Kimberly Syrie, Athlette Carol Martin, and Cinnamon Perkins, Shelton Garrick, Joly Broussard, Lisa Godeau and Vernice Ann Lewis. Following the King's proclamation music was furnished by Tony Mouton and the Moore Brothers and individual performers.
