The Daily Page 7A LAFAYETTE Eula Mae Champagne Halphen, age 86, died peacefully on August 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, after suffering from a severe stroke. Eula was born January 21, 1931, in St. Martinville, LA, the daughter of Hobson Champagne and Telcelia Champagne. On December 20, 1949, Eula married the love of her life Dewey Philip Halphen Jr, and they moved to Opelousas, Louisiana. Eula, a consummate mother and homemaker, was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends.

Eula had an unwavering faith in God. Over the years, she had become very involved with the church and was even secretary at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas, LA for several years. In addition to raising their twin boys, Eula loved to travel and enjoyed vacationing with her family and friends. After moving to Lafayette, LA in 1999, Eula was a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and was also an active volunteer in Catholic organizations prior to her first stroke.

Eula is survived by her sister, Adez Breaux of St. Martinville, LA and her husband Dewey Philip Halphen, Jr of Lafayette, LA; sons, Father Jude A. Halphen of Lafayette, LA and James P. Halphen of Lafayette, LA; three nieces and two nephews; and a number of other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leed Champagne, and her parents, Hobson and Telcelia Champagne of St.

Martinville, LA. There will be a wake at Martin Castille Funeral Home, located at 330 St Landry St. Lafayette, LA 70506, on Friday, September 1, 2017 between 4:00 PM and with the rosary at 7:00 PM. The viewing will continue on Saturday, September 02, 2017 at 10:00 AM, with a Mass at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist at 1:00 PM and burial afterwards at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, located at 355 Teurlings Dr.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 9 a.m.

until time services time. He was born June 15, 1923, in Rayne, LA to the late Danville and Donatille Broussard Bourque. Cyprien married his tall and pretty girlfriend, Renola Clement, on January 2, 1949 and they settled in Lawton, OK. On December 28, 1950, a baby girl Jennifer Susan Bourque was born. She was a gift in the middle of winter to the couple.

A lifetime member of the American Legion Post 77 in Rayne, LA. Cyprien was a US Army Veteran who proudly served his country for 20 years, to include serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. During WWII he served in Europe, Northern Ireland, Invasion of Normandy Omaha Beach, Paris Hurtgen Forest, Ruhr Packet and Central Europe. Cyprien was assigned to the 8th Infantry Division, 28th Field Artillery Battalion, and was part of the 8th Division. May 9, 1945, Germany surrendered and the units last position and last fire mission was by the Elke River in Shwerin, Germany.

The 8th Division returned to the US and was stationed at Fort Leonard, Missouri. The mission was to re-group and ship out to the Pacific which never happened since Japan surrendered and the 8th Infantry Division was then deactivated. He re-enlisted for 3 years and traveled to Rayne on a 90 day re-enlist- ment leave. He received an assignment to Fort Sill, OK with the 6th Armored Field Artillery Battalion. In 1951 he received orders for duty in Korea.

Upon arrival in Korea he was assigned to the 5th Regimental Combat Team. He served with this unit for 13 months, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Master Sargent Bourque returned to the US, re-assigned to Fort Sill, OK with the Enlisted Staff and Faculty Battery. In October 1959, he received orders to Germany, assigned to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, with the 3rd Rec Squadron in Amberg, Germany. He remained with this unit until he retired from the military.

Upon his return home to Rayne, LA, he was hired as a city letter carrier at the U.S. Postal Service until he retired. He continued to stay busy assisting friends that operated automotive shops. He enjoyed his daily McDonald mornings with friends, retirees and occasional trips back and forth to Fort Polk, LA. Left to cherish memory is his only child, Jennifer Bourque Aiguier Cordova, one grandchild, Bridget Aiguier Foco and husband Jeremy, and one great grandchild, JP Foco, II.

Cyprien Bourque was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Renola Clement Bourque, parents, Louis Dornaville and Donatille Bourque, one brother, Joseph Lester Bourque, and two sisters, Anna Lou B. Sellers, and Margaret B. Black. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana and Joann Harrington for their compassionate care given to Cyprien and his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.

Lori Arcemont passed away peacefully at her residence in Lafayette on Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at 3:29 a.m following a yearlong battle with cancer. The Rev. John Vining, pastor of Northwood United Methodist Church in Lafayette, will officiate at the services. Lori was a native of Lafayette and was employed by Acadiana Cares prior to her illness. Lori leaves behind her husband, Michael Arcemont; her daughter, Korianna Jones; and her father, Lenard Stevens, all of Lafayette; one brother, John Stevens of Maurice; her aunts, Phyllis Clark of Maurice, Mary Ann Draper and husband, Jimmy, of Keithville; her uncles, Warren Clark and wife, Marcia, Phillip Clark and wife, Lisa, all of Maurice, and Michael Clark and wife, Kathleen, of Breaux Bridge; and father and mother in law, Mike and Pat Arcemont of Lafayette.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Clark Stevens of Lafayette. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judy Duhon Trahan; two sons, Michael Trahan and his wife Judy, and Steven Trahan and his wife Jackie; daughter, Rachael Trahan; six grandchildren, Michelle T. Carson and her husband Bradley, Jessica T. Clark and her husband Justin, Marcus Trahan and his wife Jennifer, Eric Trahan and his wife Amanda, Etienne Trahan and Emile Trahan; and six great grandchildren, Knox and Eleanor Carson, Leigh and Lucie Clark, Liam Trahan, Keller, Reed, Tate and Shea Trahan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Knox and Amelia Trahan; in-laws, Robert and Hazel Duhon; and special friends, Steve Stevens, Glen Roy LeBlanc, Glen Touchet and Lynn Roy. Basil Catholic Cemetery in Judice, LA. Mr. Arabie was a native of Vermilion Parish and a longtime resident of Judice, LA. He was the youngest of eight children. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S.

Army from 1954 to 1956; went to Technical School for Machinist; later completed Business Administration Courses at Spencer Business College located in Lafayette, LA; the majority of his working life was spent as a Salesman in the oilfield industry. Was a Member of the Knights of Columbus since 1963 and was a current member of Council 1071 at St. Basil in Judice, LA. He was also a member of VFW Post 9822 where he held the positions of Commander and Quartermaster. He had a great love for books, especially novels, westerns and history.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Leah A. Arabie of Judice, LA; children, Donna Arabie Snyder and her husband, Michael of Judice, LA, Janet Arabie Leger and her husband, Rogers of Judice, LA, Glenda Arabie Grasz and her husband, Gene of Corpus Christi, TX; three grandchildren, Dana Snyder Foist and her husband, Matthew of Judice, LA, Jennifer Leger Gerard and her husband, Randall of Milton, LA and Jessica Lynn Leger of Judice, LA; one great-grandchild, Madison Foist. Mr. family would like to express sincere thanks to STAT, First Named Basis, the VA Homebound, St. Hospice, his hairdresser, Helen Abernathy and Eucharistic Ministers Linda Robin and Brenda Lagneaux.

BITUARIES BATON ROUGE Soldiers with the Louisiana National 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment, 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, rescued more than 100 citizens overnight in central Lake Charles, Aug. 28. Altogether, 3-156th assisted the Lake Charles Fire Department, Calcasieu Parish Office and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in the rescue of more than 450 citizens and 12 pets throughout the night in response to Hurricane Harvey, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm. It was a tremendous team effort by the local agencies. were calling 911; calls go into the emergency operations center, and then they dispatch them through the fire Maj.

Aaron Duplechin, commander of the 3-156th, explained. then the guys with the fire department and wildlife and fisheries would help them direct Two LANG boat teams and high-water vehicles were used to assist the parish with evacuations from a neighborhood that flooded and other calls for assistance. Duplechin, a Lake Charles native, said he has four boat teams in the area and several high-water vehicles ready to respond to calls for assistance as they may come quickly as bands of rain move through the area. the next 24 hours, I think they predicted anywhere from 5-10 inches of said Duplechin. it just kind of depends on when those bands hit and The LANG currently has approximately 375 Guardsmen activated in parishes around the state to respond to the potential flooding associated with Tropical Storm Harvey, to include Guardsmen with high water vehicles and boats prepositioned in Calcasieu, Vermillion, Orleans, Lafayette, Red River, Natchitoches, Caddo, and Rapides parishes.

In addition to vehicles and boats, the LANG has eight helicopters ready to support search-and-rescue and recon missions as needed. To help better assist coordination efforts at the local level, the LANG has liaison officer teams in Allen, Calcasieu, Cameron and Orleans parishes. To date, the LANG has issued more than 1,152 MREs, 750 bottles of water and 247,000 sandbags.
